What is POD?

Proof of Delivery

A Proof of Delivery (POD) is a signed document confirming that the consignee received the goods. In freight, the POD is typically the signed delivery copy of the Bill of Lading (BOL) and is required before the carrier can invoice or factor the load.

How it works

At delivery, the consignee signs the BOL (or a delivery receipt) acknowledging receipt of the goods in the condition noted. The driver captures that signed document — typically by photo on their phone — and submits it to the back office.

Who uses it

Every carrier, every load. Brokers and shippers withhold payment until the POD is received.

Why it matters

No POD, no payment. A clean POD with no damage notes or shortages is the fastest path to collected revenue. A POD with damage notes triggers a claim.

In Rig Terminal

Drivers capture the POD in the Rig Terminal mobile app. Smart OCR extracts the signature and delivery details, and the POD auto-attaches to the load, unlocking invoicing and 24-hour factoring.
